After the waiver is signed on the back of the tech card, only those with wristbands may enter the restricted area. Wristbands will be distributed as follows: Super and Jr. Dragsters 2 crew and driver; Pro, Street and Top Bike, 1 crew and driver.
NO FIREWORKS of any form are permitted on the property at any time. Any violations to this policy will mean immediate disqualification from the event and loss of any points, this policy is for all SMR attendees.
Entries – Car and driver combinations may enter more than one category, but not twice within the same category. Two drivers are permitted to use the same vehicle in a category.
Clean-up Policy – Any race entry causing a stoppage of racing activities twice at the same event will be disqualified from the event. Stoppage includes track checks, towing a broken vehicle, liquid spillage, etc.
Accutime II Timing System – The Accutime II utilizes a BLUE light in the center of the Tree between the Staging Lights. This light when ON STEADY means the race is set and you can begin to Stage your vehicle. If the light is not on or blinking Race control has not set or the timing system computer is not ready. The Accutime II Auto Start Program may or may not be utilized at South Mountain Raceway events. If used the system will be programmed with a total timeout of 10 seconds. The SMR Starter will for the most part be in control. There will be no re-runs for being timed out. The Accutime II Cross Talk program will be utilized in the Super Eliminator category only.
Time Trial Sessions – South Mountain Raceway will make every effort to conduct two sessions of time trials prior to eliminations. However, this does not guarantee a competitor two runs. Categories of competition will be called to the lanes in sessions. If a session is missed it cannot be made up. No exceptions. A clean up session will be offered at the conclusion of time trials for zero punch holders only. Each participant must present a session run card to the South Mountain Official working at the front of the staging lanes prior to each run.
Bye Runs – The first round bye run will go to the driver who records the best reaction time during the Second round of time trials. In the event of identical reaction times, the driver who records it first will be awarded the bye. A driver will remain eligible for the bye until he/she either uses it or is eliminated from the day’s competition. Bye runs for subsequent rounds will be chosen in the same manner: the best reaction time from the previous round, until the ladder rounds. A driver is eligible for only one bye run during eliminations unless awarded one because of competitor breakage or if all other competitors have also received bye runs, until the ladder rounds. When laddered, a competitor that has a carryover bye run will automatically be forced to the number one qualifying position. This will ensure that the competitor will receive the bye on the ladder if there is one. To take the win light on a bye run, the driver is only required to stage the racecar under its own power long enough for the tree to be activated. After receiving the green light, the driver may then back out of the beams and is officially a winner; no forward movement is required after receiving a win light.
Laddering – All classes, except Bike/Sled and Junior Dragster will be randomly paired to the point of eight (8) or fewer vehicles left in competition, at which point they will be qualified by reaction time in the previous round, and put on a standard NHRA sportsman ladder. Reaction times of First time run will be used to qualify Bike/Sled and Junior Dragster competitors. Standard NHRA sportsman ladders will be established for the first round of eliminations and will be followed through for the remaining rounds of competition.
Lane Choice – Racers in Super, Pro, and Street Eliminators may select the right or left lane by pulling into the appropriate staging lane. Odd numbered staging lanes (1, 3) will be pulled into the left lane of the track. Even numbered staging lanes (2, 4) will be pulled into the right lane of the track. Once committed to a staging lane, there will be no changing of lanes for any reason. During time trials, when a class reaches a point where all remaining competitors desire the same lane, the first car in line will get lane choice and the other car must utilize the other lane. During eliminations, when a class reaches a point where all remaining competitors desire the same lane, a coin toss will be used to determine lane choice. If a competitor is eligible for a bye run and ends up paired because of an even number of entries, the driver eligible for the bye run gets lane choice.
Dial-Ins – All competition numbers and dial-ins must be on the left side of the vehicle. Competition numbers are to be a minimum of 4 inches in height while dial-ins must be written legibly and at least 6 inches in height. Competition numbers and/or dial-ins on drag tires will not be accepted. Dial-ins must be in place on the racecar by the time it reaches the white line in front of the staging lanes. Dial-ins cannot be altered after that point. In the event of a pause in racing for more than 10 minutes, racers after the white line may change their dial provided they inform a SMR Official AND inform their competitor. It is the responsibility of the driver to check his/her dial-in on the dial-in boards and scoreboards before staging their vehicle. There will be no re-runs due to incorrect dial-ins.
Deep Staging – If you are going to deep stage, it may not be visible on the vehicle. All DEEP (lettering) on windows must be removed (not permitted to be covered). The tree maybe on Auto Start; NO provision will be made by the starter if a racer is deep. There will be NO disqualification for going deep.
Breakage – If a race entry breaks before making a time trial the car owner will be entitled to a full refund of the race entry ticket. If the car owner stays during the event they will be charged for a spectator ticket. Car owner must show a run card with no punches, or have the track starter verify the entry did not take the tree.
If a race entry breaks after making one time trial, the car owner will be entitled to an entry refund less $10.00
During eliminations, when cars are paired by an official and have not crossed the dial-in line, and one entrant fails to start or encounters problems:
- The opponent will be pulled to the side and broken entrant will have until the end of the round to repair it and contest the run.
- If the broken entrant is unable to do this, the opposing entrant will receive a competition bye.
- If an entry breaks or fails to start once it crosses the dial-in line, an official will give the broken entry 30 seconds to start the car. If it fails to do so, the broken entry’s opponent will receive a competition bye run. Once a car enters the rear of the staging lanes, the driver has officially presented the car and driver combination for eliminations. No driver or car changes will be permitted once the car enters the staging lanes unless otherwise directed or approved by a raceway official.
